The Gina Guthrie Scholarship Fund was started as a way to honor Gina and keep her memory alive after she sadly passed away in 2019. The fund’s goal is to raise money in her name and award it in the form of scholarships to deserving students. Our initial goal was to raise $20,000 in the first fiscal year and award a $2,500 scholarship for the fall of 2020 to a Kappa Delta at the University of Florida, where Gina was a proud member. After an amazing year of fund-raising, we brought in over $40,000 and were able to award our first two scholarships in 2020 to two amazing young women.
In 2021 we started a second scholarship award exclusively for high school seniors in Cabarrus County, North Carolina where Gina lived. This scholarship is only for public high school students from Cabarrus who are about to start college in the fall. Going forward we will have two annual awards - one for a Kappa Delta at U.F. and one for a Cabarrus H.S. student, this way we can have an award for the college Gina loved, as well as one for the community that she called home. We hope this will be a way to help students with their college finances and also serve as a way to remember Gina and honor her spirit.
