The Gina Guthrie Scholarship Fund was started as a way to honor Gina and keep her memory alive after she sadly passed away in 2019. The fund’s goal is to raise money in her name and award it in the form of scholarships to deserving students. Our initial goal was to give out a $2,500 scholarship for the fall of 2020 to a Kappa Delta at the University of Florida, where Gina was a proud member. After an incredible first year of fund-raising, we were able to award two scholarships in 2020 to two amazing young women and create an annual award.
In 2021 we started a second annual scholarship award exclusively for high school seniors in Cabarrus County, North Carolina where Gina lived. This scholarship is only for public high school students from Cabarrus who are about to start college in the fall. Going forward we will have two annual awards - a fall award for a Kappa Delta at U.F., and a spring one for a Cabarrus H.S. student. By doing this, we will have an award for the college and sorority Gina loved, as well as one for the community that she called home. We hope the foundation can help students with their college finances and also serve as a way to remember Gina and honor her spirit.
We have just concluded the application process for our Cabarrus County Spring 2023 scholarship and will be announcing the recipient on June 1st, so please check back then. Thanks to all of our applications and everyone in the Cabarrus Count school system who helped promote our award. And, if you want to learn more about our past recipients, please click on the "Recipients" link below to learn their stories and read their essays. There are also a couple of short videos below from our inaugural winners updating us on their scholastic achievement.
